August 30, 2012

The kids have started learning and reviewing school skills.  Yesterday they heard a story called Whole Body Listening Larry at School.  Today we re-read the story and created posters highlighting the parts of the body we use to be good listeners.

When they listen with their ears, they hear what others say.
When they listen with their eyes, they look at whomever is speaking.
When they listen with their mouths, they are silent.
When they listen with their hands and feet, they are still.
When they listen with their body, they are not wiggly.
When they listen with their brain, they think about what they are hearing.
When they listen with their heart, they show they care.

We will be working on and reviewing Whole Body Listening throughout the school year!

August 29, 2012

Today in our first day of project, we worked in the gardens outside.  The kids checked out all the growth that happened over the summer.  On move up day last year they planted green beans, lettuce, and carrots and today they harvested the carrots and green beans, but the lettuce had gone to seed and wasn't good to eat anymore.  In addition, they harvested some potatoes and tomatoes that Ted had planted.  The last thing they did was begin to wash all the vegetables.  They used vegetable brushes to scrub the potatoes and carrots.

We plan to eat and share the carrots and tomatoes and enjoy the green beans, and hopefully we'll soon be able to make some mashed potatoes, too!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back, friends and families!  It's so exciting to be starting another new year at SSCPS!  Check back often for updates on the goings-on in Amy's Pod!
